10 Healthy Habits for a Healthy Lifestyle

healthy lifestyle habits

Healthy habits form the very core for a healthy lifestyle. A lot depends on what we do every day in our lives, and very much affects our health. A lot of factors, apart from just our diet, come into play, into determining how healthy we are.

Here are a few habits that we should try and inculcate in our everyday lives, for a healthier body, and healthier life.

1) Waking Up Early

Waking up early has a lot more benefits than that meets the eye. It not only gives us extra time to do a lot of stuff, but it is directly linked to our overall health. Our body is designed to rising with the sun and setting with it. And while we do not have to follow that literally, waking up early has greatly influenced cortisol levels, a hormone that directly impacts our metabolism, immune system, stress response and energy levels.

2) Staying Hydrated

The importance of staying hydrated – drinking a lot of water – cannot be stressed upon enough. Water constitutes nearly 60% of our body, and aids in the proper functioning of almost every system in our body. The lack of enough water in our body not only causes dehydration, but can also lead to fatigue, headaches, and increased cravings.

3) Physical Movement

We live in an era where we do not get a lot of space for physical movement. The fact that we depend upon some kind of technology for everything in our life is one factor, and the fact that our lives have become so busy with work and other activities is another factor. Whatever the reason may be, restricted physical activity is not really great for our health, which is why we need to make sure that we try to insert as much physical activity as we can, on a daily basis. Try to include basic physical exercises that will keep you healthy on a daily basis.

4) Eating Slowly and While Sitting Down

Sitting down and slowly eating our food is highly essential for proper digestion and mindful eating. If you eat by walking around or not really paying attention to what you are eating, chances are you may eat more than you need. By sitting down, you relax your body and help your body properly digest your food.

5) Walking

Like stated previously, physical movement is very essential for our overall wellbeing. Walking is especially recommended for a lot of reasons. Walking does not only fit into the physical movement category, but will also help improve our posture, mood, circulation, reduce the risk for chronic diseases, and alleviate fatigue and depression.

6) Cooking At Home

Eating healthy food, and maintaining a balanced diet is highly important for us to keep healthy and fit. Eating out on a regular basis does not really help with this. While it may be highly impossible to totally cut out on outside food, it is imperative that we try to eat home-cooked food as much as possible, for our own wellbeing.

7) Including Vegetables in Your Diet

Vegetables are something that every doctor and every parent forces us to eat, and constantly keeps reminding us to eat. This is because vegetables are an amazing source of fibre and help us maintain a healthy gut. It has even been found out that people who regularly consume vegetables have a 20% lower rate of being diagnosed with a chronic disease.

8) Reducing Electronic Activity

Obviously, we cannot avoid relying on technology for the most part of our everyday lives. Every single the thing in our life has become electronically dependant and not a single second can pass by without one gadget or the other. However, it is important that we take time and try to avoid electronic gadgets as much as we can, whenever we can, and try to utilise that time in other, healthier ways, like indulging in some physical activity.

9) Reading

Reading has a lot more underlying scientific advantages than that meet the eye. Not only does it increase our power of imagination and our vocabulary, but studies have also shown that reading can reduce stress, prevent age-related cognitive decline, and promote a good night’s sleep

10) Sleeping Early

As stated in the beginning, it is important for us to wake up early in the morning. This means that it is equally important for us to sleep early at night. Our bodies need a good night’s sleep, and the ideal duration for having a healthy sleep is 8 hours a day. Not getting enough sleep can result in memory issues, mood changes, weakened immunity, altered eating behaviour, and increased ageing. Getting good sleep has shown to aid weight loss as well.
