Health Benefits of Consuming Eggs

Image showing the nutrients present in Egg

Eggs are the most commonly consumed form of poultry around the world. They are not only great for consuming individually but are also great to be cooked with any other dish as well. Eggs are also highly instrumental in bakery products and are a staple breakfast food for many. Eggs are highly versatile, allowing you to cook them in any which way you would prefer to cook them and taste just as good no matter what.

Eggs are also highly recommended for those who are looking to lose weight and are even considered keto-friendly. Eggs make the perfect food for a healthy weight loss regime, as they have very low amounts of cholesterol and fat, and high amounts of protein, that benefit your overall health, and help you lose weight (with the right kind of diet and exercise) the healthy way.

Just like any other item though, while eggs are a great source of protein, and considered to be healthy widely, they too have their own drawbacks. We will be discussing a few benefits and a few drawbacks of eating eggs down below.

Benefits of eating eggs:

1) Good source of Omega-3

There is nothing new that can be said about the various benefits that Omega-3 fatty acids offer a single person. These acids are not naturally found in the human body, which makes it all the more important for us to make them a part of our daily diet. Omega-3 is usually found in fish, but eggs make for the perfect alternative if you are not a fan of eating fish.

2) Help with weight loss

This is already widely known, with eggs being an essential part of any diet routine when you are trying to lose weight. However, the reason why eggs are such good promoters of weight loss is because they make you feel fuller, by promoting the hormones that make you feel fuller.

3) Helps improve eye health

A lot of doctors suggest people with eye-related problems to have eggs, as they promote good eye health. This is because eggs are a rich source of antioxidants lutein and zeaxanthin, both of which have scientifically proven to greatly help improve eye health, and even prevent certain eye-related diseases such as cataract and macular degeneration.

4) Highly nutritious

Apart from containing Omega-3 fatty acids, eggs also contain pretty much every single nutrient, albeit in small amounts. Imagine the number of nutrients that an egg contains if it has the power to turn a single cell into a chicken. This is why eggs are called the perfect food by a lot of people, as they are just about enough for a perfect diet.

Side Effects of Eating Eggs:

As stated earlier, there are a few side effects, or conditions, under which the consumption of eggs might turn out to be bad.

Here are a few of those conditions:

1) Eggs contain saturated fats. Saturated fats are bad for the heart when their levels grow in your body. These fats can also increase the total cholesterol and bad cholesterol (LDL) levels in your body, which increases the risk of heart diseases.

2) Regular consumption of egg yolks – at least 3 a week – has led to the build-up of carotid plaque in the arteries. Plaque is usually found in those who are addicted to smoking. While the levels of plaque found in yolk eaters are comparatively lesser, it has been found that the levels of this plaque are dangerously close.

Apart from all that has already been discussed, those with diabetes are advised to keep away from eating eggs, as they might increase the risk of a heart-related issue.

Keeping both the benefits and side effects of eating eggs in mind, experts have stated that it is better to limit the intake of eggs to 1 egg per day.
